Inspiration

We were inspired by our negative experiences communicating with our professors during this pandemic. This included sites like D2L and Piazza, and even a professor's hand-built site.

What it does

Students can chat with Unicomm to see relevant material, or get help writing a precise question to the class or prof. Unicomm is meant to learn how to ask better questions based on the questions asked by students.

How we built it

We built the app using starting with bootstrap, but mostly pure HTML and CSS. For features like the whiteboard and chatbot, we used JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

Neither of us were familiar on how to set up a machine learning algorithm, and we wouldn't have a large enough data set to properly teach the AI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We completed the project with only 2 people with little-to-no front end experience, and it looks fine! Woooo! We also are proud of the idea, and with more time and competent hands, we believe the idea can be taken much farther

What we learned

Lots of css and html. We leared some Bootstrap, but we also ran into its restrictions.

What's next for Unicomm

Here are the major improvements we'd make with more time: Adding better bot interactions, adding the machine learning algorithm to the bot, integrating the assingments with the bot, adding voice support to the professor page, adding an eraser to the whiteboard, and adding meeting scheduling.
