Inspiration

As university students, we noticed how hard it is to make cooking exciting, collaborative, and social—especially when everyone has different schedules and skill levels. We wanted to turn cooking from a solitary, mundane task into something competitive, fun, and community-driven. UniCook was inspired by the idea of bringing “cook-off energy” into the student experience: same ingredients, same recipe, fair competition, and a chance to build real culinary confidence.

What it does

UniCook is a competitive cooking platform where students join scheduled cook-offs, follow the same recipe, submit their dishes, and then rank each other’s results. Once all participants finish, the app unlocks a ranking phase where users judge dishes and earn an ELO-style score. The app provides recipes, ingredient lists, match timers, opponent lists, and pending rankings—all within a clean, user-friendly dashboard.

How we built it

We designed UniCook entirely in Figma using Figma Make to automate repetitive UI tasks, generate layouts, and speed up iteration. We used auto-layout for responsive screens, component variants for interactions, prototype flows for match navigation, and mesh gradients for a premium interface feel. We collaborated in real time, using Make’s MCP actions to modify styling, build cards, and generate placeholder content. The app was built with a focus on UX clarity, visual cohesion, and a competitive-yet-friendly tone.
