Inspiration
We thought that many people always talked about vertical farming as such a beneficial and sustainable method and we really wanted to look into the cons of vertical farming. That is when we found out that there is very interesting con of vertical farming that little people noticed. There are no insects nor wind in these farms. So how does pollination take place?
What it does
Currently, manual pollination is being done to pollinate these crops. However, it is really labour-intensive and costly. Hence, U+2698 will aid in the manual pollination of farmers, making it more efficient and less taxing for them.
How we built it
We built it thinking that we wanted to optimise the process of pollination to its best. Since manual pollination is currently being done, the male and female plants should have already been separated. This means that our machine, U+2698 can make use of the sorted genders to make pollinating them more efficient.
Challenges we ran into
It was really difficult to pick out problems that were possible to find a solution to since we have limited knowledge and capabilities. However, we tried out best to sieve out problems which looked like there were potential solutions for it. Next, we picked out those that seemed interesting and more exciting to do. The most challenging part was to think out feasible solutions since there were many aspects to consider.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we finished our prototype as well as did up very pretty slides. We are also proud of our own efforts and the final products we came up with.
What we learned
We learnt to integrate python programming into solutions for our products. It is something new as usually we will get a chance to come up with products in projects but we will not be required to do up codes for it as well. So it was a new and really interesting experience for us.
