The smart successor to CollegeVine! More accurate, gives personalized advice on improving admissions chances, and finds opportunities that are nearby and relevant to your skills and interests!

This project means a lot to us!

We found CollegeVine as high school students looking for guidance, but all we were left with was a number from 0-100 that discouraged us. We want to build something for students that were once in our shoes who deserve more than just a percentage and would benefit from a truly helpful and comprehensive guide for college admissions! A great counselor should be accessible for everyone!

What it does

You input your CommonApp application and your interests. Then, you add specific colleges you are interested in, and add the application questions for that college, which automatically gets turned into text fields that you can type into. After you are done writing, you can click a button to estimate your admissions chance. However, this is not the point of our app. In the next page, you will get a tailored game plan with your preferred date range as well as any other preferences. You will get a clear plan on how to improve your admissions chances for your dream school! This plan can be edited through talking to the AI or manually too.

And on top of all that, there is an AI assistant you can talk to with your voice or text, that has full context of your profile and all the applications you are working on! It's name is CounselorBro.

How we built it

We used Gemini for the LLM, and ElevenLabs for CounselorBro's voice. The website is hosted through Vercel and our domain is from GoDaddy. We used GitHub to collaborate during the hackathon.

Challenges we ran into

We had never gotten our app onto an actual website before, so we ran into a lot of issues with that. First we tried GitHub pages which did not work for us. Next, we switched to Vercel. We also ran into a lot of pesky issues with all the APIs we are using.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very, very, happy to have created an app that we ourselves would love to use and can actually give to other students in high school to help them out. Our website is completely free currently much better than the leading competitor, CollegeVine.
