Inspiration
We were inspired by mobile apps like Tinder, LinkedIn, and Twitter. We want students to be matched based on similar majors and classes. Some functions within the app include connecting with friends to study with, getting status updates from friends about the class they’re currently studying for and where they’re studying at (if they decide to share that in the status update).
What it does
A mobile app that allows you to connect with other undergraduate students with similar study habits, majors, and interests. We wanted to make this app campus exclusive to make it safer to connect with others on campus.
How I built it
Our team utilized Figma to design the app prototype along with its user interface (UI) and user experience (UX). Moving forward, our intention is to employ TypeScript and React Native in the development process to create the mobile application.
Challenges I ran into
The first challenge our team faced was time limitations when we started this app development during our computer science club's Hack-A-Day event, during which we were given a mere 12 hours to develop the project and present our idea. This constrained timeframe imposed considerable pressure on our progress. Additionally, two of our team members lacked prior experience with the design tool, Figma, which negatively impacted our productivity and workflow. Despite these challenges, we were able to overcome them through effective teamwork and resourceful problem-solving.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
As a team of undergraduate students, we take immense pride in the idea of our project, which has the potential to enhance social life and the improve safety of college students, particularly at UCF. Furthermore, we are proud of the UI and UX design that we diligently developed, despite the constraints of limited time.
What I learned
Two of our team members were able to learn a useful skill in utilizing the design tool called Figma. Additionally, our team members who already had prior experience with Figma were able to gain a deeper understanding of utilizing this tool. This learning process enabled our team to expand our skillset and expertise, contributing to the overall success of the project.
What's next for Unibond Mobile App
Although this project was initially for a club event, our team are interested in making this our personal project for the summer of 2023. We want to continue this collaboration and implement a MERN stack, encompassing MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js, to develop a comprehensive full-stack solution for the app.
