Inspiration
I am currently in the process of applying to colleges and I hate calendar apps because I don't like scheduling things myself as I never know when to schedule them. I was thinking about an application that would make my life easier so I can actually have a solid plan on when to work on application related things.
What it does
Uni-tracker is a calendar app that basically gives you dates on when you should work on a submit things. For example it will tell you in June to start on your Common Application essay. Or in November to submit your college application. It will also notify you when deadlines come up. Finally, the app will have forums for colleges that will allow you to discuss the application for each specific college. I feel like this will help and be different than other calendar apps because it will be specifically focused on college, and it will give you a timeline of when to work on things.
How we built it
I created slides through Google slides, and a mock up of the user interface through Figma.
Challenges we ran into
I think the hardest part, of this app is working out how to make the calendar calculate when to work on things for each person. This is because people can join the app at different times and different applications can have different due-dates. That is why I propose using a certain number of days between certain things. For example on the first day that the user downloads the app they should automatically have "work on you common app essay" first and then 20 days after have, "have a peer read over and provide comments on your essay."
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of the user interface, as I am learning a lot about how to use Figma. While it is not professional it shows progress from my last attempts at making mock-ups of user interfaces.
What we learned
I learned a lot about the counselor to student ratio, which is really sad because its such a large number of students, you cannot really get individualized attention or reminders on when to turn things in.
What's next for Uni-Tracker
Starting to code the application, I would probably use Flutter.
