Our Inspiration

In our perpetually changing world, we're stuck with the same mainstream platforms like Instagram and Facebook, with the same philosophy to retain attention and increase time spent on each app, with nearly no thought to the user's ambitions. We wanted to fix that. What social media platform would prioritize the quality of content over quantity? Uni.

Sooo... what exactly is Uni?

Uni is a social media app for college campuses that grants students the ability to post meaningful photos with 2 category tags and no caption. Once students sign up with their college email, the app provides them a space to explore nearby events and encourages posts about different personal landmarks on campus that ring true to you! Uni's unique posting methodology promotes natural engagement and sparks real conversations about places on campus that truly matter to U. Uni.

How did we build it?

(Because we are builders! Bum buh rum pum bum pum pum!) Our team designed the interface and all animations using Figma, and some plugins offered by the service. The logo was drafted on Procreate and Apple Notes and vectorized on Adobe Illustrator.

Hideous challenges – turned into blessings!

Our most difficult challenge to overcome was the initial ideation phase. Coming up with a new, competent social media platform and aesthetically pleasing UI design that doesn't already exist, while integrating our mission for Uni to serve as a one-stop-shop for the prime college experience was nothing short of impressive! Furthermore, this is our first hackathon and we've never used Figma before. The learning curve might have been a bit steep, and the journey rough, but the final result was more than worth the struggles. We definitely had a blast! We hope our tutorial helps you enter the world of Uni!

So, what did we learn guys?

The implementation of UI is essential to application fluidity and the overall user experience. It is not only responsible for aesthetics and looking pretty, but also affects an application's effectiveness and responsiveness. Additionally, if users enjoy their experience with the interface, it raises the likelihood of user retention.

Our team also learned how to use Figma today, so congratulations, guys!

What's next for Uni?

Uni can be integrated into various platforms including iOS, Android, and the web! Also, within different campuses, certain portions of content can be tweaked to fit different campus environments. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about Uni!
