Inspiration
It was this Women's Day that we realized that there are women around us who feel uncomfortable sharing issues related to any violation of their personal safety or reproductive health/infertility issues. We took the initiative to help those women in need with our platform UnHeard.
What it does -
When a woman comes to our website she has two options to choose from - Health and NGOs. Each of these opens up the ChatBot which takes the problem from the user, with the use of Natural Language Processing, keywords are extracted from the problem statement. Let's say, she is looking for NGOs - keywords like domestic violence, human rights, etc will be used to filter the list of NGOs from the database. She can look up the suggestions and proceed with contacting the concerned organization using the details which have been provided on the website.
Features like search by location are used to make the service more useful and robust. For doctors, the user can make use of a one-on-one video conferencing feature to establish a connection with the doctor for future proceedings.
The major highlight of the entire system is that it's entirely free of cost - the Doctors and NGOs listed are not charging any fee for their services.
How we built it -
We began by collecting data on doctors and NGOs who provide their services for free, which was a pretty daunting task looking at the pool of data available on the internet. In the meantime, we prepared the design and front end of our website. Features like maps were implemented using Public APIs like Google Maps API, while chatbot was trained using Natural Language Processing for action keywords. The database was built on MongoDB Atlas. The video call feature was implemented using WebRTC service.
Challenges we ran into -
At times, we faced challenges with the integration of our project at different stages of development. We faced database failure at the end, and we had to stick by the remaining strands which brought the moral of the team down a little bit, but we got over it together and tried to fix our project in which ever way we could.
Accomplishments that we're proud of -
We build a fully functional website, that solves real-world problems and on the way, we learned new technologies and acquired new skills. Implementing Natural Language Processing and Video call feature was something we are really proud of as new developers.
What's next for UnHeard
We are planning on making the site live for users to use in real-time, enhancing the security vulnerabilities of the project, and making it robust and more secure for women to use.
