Inspiration

I was interested in investigating just how habitable my city will be in say 20, 30, 40 years, given all of the news reports and findings around the very limited timespan we have to fix these issues before it's too late. I also wanted to see how I could write code and use a best fit model based off of climate-related data to make these predictions.

What it does

In the app the user can index a location, climate ailment, and year to get a prediction as to how bad that particular ailment will affect that location at that time. With this being a kind of dire topic to seek out and experience - just how unhabitable a particular place will be- the inclusion of activism tools and resources allows the user to learn more about the issue and empowers them to help fight climate change on a national and local level in relation to the ailments that will affect their city.

How we built it

The app was built in figma, and the goal was to do the mathematical modeling in MATLAB.

Challenges we ran into

I couldn't for the life of me get my new MATLAB license to work :(

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was my first time using figma and designing an app in general, so I am proud to have an actual product that looks and functions like an app!

What we learned

I learned how to design and interface an app.

What's next for Unhabitable Future

In the future, I would like to first do the mathematical modeling in MATLAB, and then move on to create it in Python so that it can interface with an actual app. Likewise I would like to use data from cities around the world (the original idea was to us just US data for simplicity)
