Inspiration

"UnFramed" was born from a profound question: When our inner voice collides with external judgment, how do we redefine ourselves?

In a world filled with frames and expectations, the "self" often spirals into endless self-doubt. This work emerged from my contemplation on the nature of freedom—that freedom isn't a prize to be sought externally, but rather the light we discover in our own hands once we face ourselves with honesty.

Through visual storytelling, I wanted to present a journey of self-awakening and reconstructing one's subjectivity, allowing each viewer to find their own answers between fracture and reconstruction.

What it does

"UnFramed" is a 1m54s visual narrative that takes viewers through a transformative journey from self-doubt to awakening.

The work interweaves realistic and animated styles to create a hyper-sensory space where reality and fantasy coexist. As the "frame" trembles on the verge of collapse, viewers witness how the self confronts its fragments and ultimately reconstructs its core.

Accompanied by an epic score in a fictional language and emotionally expressive character voices, the piece builds profound emotional resonance across audiovisual layers, inviting everyone to reflect: What is true freedom?

How we built it

This work was primarily created using AI technologies, making the creative process itself an act of challenging existing forms:

Visual Production

Realistic sequences generated with MidJourney and Runway AI Animation style created using my personally trained Stable Diffusion model with exclusive LoRA techniques.

Storyboards drafted through precisely designed prompts Post-production refinement and composition detailing in Adobe Photoshop Moving images produced with MidJourney Video, Runway AI, Kling AI, Veo3, Hailuo AI, and Flexclip.

Sound Design

Score composed with Suno AI, blending fictional language with epic atmosphere.

Some sound effects were generated using ElevenLabs.

Narration personally recorded by me to infuse genuine emotion.

Post-Production Integration

Final editing completed in CapCut, integrating imagery, sound, and rhythm.

Script 30% generated through discussions with ChatGPT, remainder manually written and refined.

Challenges we ran into

The greatest challenge was maintaining emotional authenticity and narrative coherence while relying heavily on AI in the creative process.

Each AI tool has its limitations and unpredictability. Seamlessly connecting fragments generated by different tools while maintaining unified visual style and emotional flow required constant experimentation and adjustment.

Additionally, training the Stable Diffusion model and designing precise prompts was a continuous trial-and-error process.

The most difficult part was finding balance between technology and art—leveraging AI's creativity while ensuring the work carries the deeper meaning I intended to convey, rather than becoming mere technical demonstration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm most proud of successfully transforming abstract philosophical contemplation into tangible and moving visual experience.

This work not only technically integrated multiple AI tools (94% video usage, 92% audio usage), but also touched viewers on an emotional level.

More importantly, I successfully practiced the concept that "the act of creation itself is an act of unframing" — in this new artistic era shaped by algorithms, I believe, AI is not merely a tool but a partner in co-creation, a catalyst for breaking frames and reshaping what is possible.

What we learned

This creative process taught me profoundly: AI won't replace creators, but it empowers creators with stronger expressive capabilities.

I learned how to precisely harness different AI tools' characteristics, how to realize my visions through prompt engineering, and how to inject human warmth into generated content. More importantly, I understood that the true core of creation isn't about what tools you use, but what story you want to tell and what emotions you want to convey.

Technology is merely a vessel; the creator's thoughts, emotions, and aesthetic judgment are the soul of the work. This process also made me reconsider the definition of "originality"—in the AI era, originality is no longer just starting from scratch, but how to curate, integrate, and imbue meaning.

What's next for UnFramed

I plan to develop this concept into a more complete series.

The next step will explore longer narrative forms, delving deeper into different facets of "self-reconstruction" — from individual to collective, from internal to external. I also want to experiment with interactive technologies, allowing audiences to participate in the "unframing" process and create their own narrative pathways.

The ultimate goal is to establish a cross-media art project through film, installation, VR, and other forms, inviting more people to contemplate: In this world full of frames, how do we reclaim true freedom?
