Inspiration
Though its processes are still a mystery to many, artificial intelligence influences major decisions from employment recruiting to healthcare that affect us. Most students are frustrated by complex math and ambiguous application programming interface. Our intention was to link common interest with sophisticated research. A simple question, "Could artificial intelligence explain its purpose in the form of a committed teacher?" sparked the inspiration.
What it does
UNDERSTAND AI acts as a conversational and interactive mentor, customized, Socratic approach to explain AI subjects. Users ask inquiries in basic English and the system answers with actual examples, visual diagrams, and basic analogies that fit the learner's background. It also has a "bias detective" mode that illuminates hidden prejudices in AI models.
How we built it
Using Replit as our development platform, we developed UNDERSTAND AI and integrated the OpenAI API to provide smart discussions. To provide fascinating learning opportunities, the software blends prompt engineering, customized learning strategies, and natural language processing. To make sure that learners can concentrate on understanding concepts rather than navigating complicated tools, we designed the interface to be straightforward and accessible.
Challenges we ran into
Without compromising accuracy, one of the most difficult challenges was simplifying sophisticated AI principles. Additionally, we struggled to develop explanations that were interesting while also being flexible to various learning levels. Another difficulty was coming up with analogies and examples that would help people comprehend abstract AI concepts better. Extensive experimentation and refinement were required to strike the perfect mix between educational profundity and conversational simplicity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developed an AI teacher who can convey intricate AI ideas in easy terms. Created individualized learning experiences that change based on the users' knowledge levels and backgrounds. To encourage responsible AI awareness, the Bias Detective function was put into place. Designed a working prototype that makes AI education more available to students and beginners. Multi-language support (Spanish, Mandarin, Hindi) to reach global learners. · Classroom integration—teacher dashboard to monitor student progress and common stumbling blocks. · Expanded domain coverage (AI in climate science, law, art) with domain-specific knowledge bases. · Offline mode using on-device small language models for schools with limited internet.
