Inspiration

Sometimes when you’re under something, it means you’re hiding from someone. That is one way to define being in the closet. You’re hiding your true self, wanting or not. At least, that’s what I felt for a very long time. The biggest downside of this is that it can get very lonely, and that’s where Under the Rainbow enters.

Under the Rainbow came with the idea that you don’t need to be alone in the process of discovering yourself. This project is aimed at the people in the closet, as well as out, and allies. It is the creation of a strong community that shares a sense of empathy towards the other. A small place where you can be whoever you are and that would be ok.

Right now, our idea is to start with Instagram, spreading important information about diverse topics, and then open a community on Discord. This website was created with all the love and care (to compensate for the lack of ability ha) to propagate the stories and talent of the LGBTQIA+ community, you wouldn’t want to miss out on that!

Under the Rainbow is vital, because inclusion in public spaces matters, the respect of your parents no matter your sexuality counts, and representation on social media is required.

What it does

We're here to celebrate the art and stories of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as raise money for noble organizations from all over the world.

How we built it

Using HTML, CSS, and a little bit of Javascript

Challenges we ran into

I spent hours on StackOverflow gathering information about the grid and the lights-on/lights-off function for instance.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Honestly, I'm proud of the project as a whole, because I came from a long way and I'm excited to pursue this project further this year.

What we learned

HTML is nothing without CSS. Also the difference between learning random things and building your first big project.

What's next for Under the Rainbow

Bunch of research and the opening of the Instagram page!
