Inspiration

Every time I drive by Costco during COVID-19, I see a long line of customers waiting at the entrance. It doesn't look either safe or efficient. I thought it would be only natural to help store owners/operators to schedule visits to particular time slots.

What it does

  1. Store managers (from large chains to mom and pop stores) enter/upload their participating locations - addresses and their capacity (number of people that each store can fit safely with Coronavirus in mind).

  2. Then shoppers can see available stores with open time slots near them and reserve a time slot. The app generates onscreen QR code for the visit.

  3. At the store entrance, a store clerk scans QR codes from users' screens with Scan portion of the app. If they come within scheduled interval, they are let in right away. All other customers stand in line to enter as they do now. They will be allowed to enter with second priority when capacity allows.

Additionally, the app can show and help ration inventory of products that are in short supply during COVID-19 epidemics: Masks, Hand Sanitizer, Wipes, etc.

How I built it

I've built a simple prototype of customer facing iOS app using Swift and Firebase.

What I learned

The more I work on it, the more I like it

What's next for Uncrowdify

Taking it from the prototype to a product that stores and customers can use. Developing store facing app that has admin and QR code scanning functionality. Finding a way to let stores and customers know about the product.
