Inspiration- The social injustice of sex crimes and the lack of support and attention that the victims of this horrendous act receive.
What it does- It brings awareness to this issue and gives the victims a voice of their emotions.
How we built it- We used wood to create the foundation and acrylic sheets to construct the bag. Then we used the laser cutting machine to cut out the handles and etched the design onto the front and back of the piece. Super glue was used to connect all the pieces together. LED lights were programmed by coding to represent the awareness feature. Lastly, we added sharded glass to focus on the viewer, portraying the image that it can happen to anyone.
Challenges we ran into- The challenges we faced were getting the correct sizing for the handles as well as getting the hardware to stay on properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of- We are proud of creating an interactive visual image that brings awareness and represents the victims of these acts.
What we learned- We learned how to use the laser cutter, how to transfer files from Illustrator to the laser cutter program, learned how to work with Arduinos and how to code.
What's next for UNCOVERED- We would create a product line to bring awareness to other social injustices.
