Our web app is inspired by the concepts of the dating app Tinder; however we wanted to tackle a much more serious problem, isolation. Specifically, we were inspired to tackle the growing issue of isolation at UofT and other universities across the globe using the newest technology, according to a 2016 national survey "nearly 70% of university students battle loneliness during the school year."
What it does:
uncooked helps students to connect with fellow peers to meet up in-person and study, paving the way for long lasting and meaningful connections.
How we built it:
We built are project using html, css and javascript, using firebase as the database. As a team we contributed on every step of the way, leading to cohesive web app.
Challenges we ran into:
During the building of our web app we faced several challenges. One major challenge was successfully integrated Gemini API into the functions in an effective and meaningful way. Additionally, it took many different tries and debugging to link the database to firebase.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
As a team we are proud that our project effectively integrates AI into our function to get an AI powered chat box. Additionally, we are proud of adding a database to our web app to make it practical in real life use.
What we learned:
From this experience we learned how to integrate databases and use the newest AI technology. We learned how to use Gemini API to create live one-to-one chat boxes and much more.
What's next:
Our vision of uncooked's future is increased features, such as study to gain points and a map interface for easier navigation. Additionally, we look forward to expand this web app to all campuses of UofT, and possibly more universities. This will be possible using AI tools such as Snowflake which will provide more accurate matches for students. We also wish to expand to more wellness considerations.
