Inspiration
We were thinking of common problems that many people and students run into in our daily lives. One of our team members talked about how he started cooking since he doesn't live in a dorm anymore, and that is when we started brainstorming ideas on how we can improve his cooking experience.
What it does
Transforms obnoxious recipe websites into a clean, condensed, uncluttered version; allowing for the user to enjoy cooking with recipes seamlessly. Also answers basic questions about the recipe it scanned, and can read it out to the user.
How we built it
We drew up multiple drafts and diagrams throughout different points of it's development. We then assigned specific tasks to each member to try to get it done, and then every once in a while we got back together, to see what other features we can add, and what we need to fix.
Challenges we ran into
Learning how to use vscode and implementing a virtual environment. It was two of our members' first times doing python, and other languages, and also using APIs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to make a clean UI that is smooth, and a working product.
What we learned
Since two of our members are pretty new and our most experienced member has only completed CptS 122, it was our first time using a lot of things during this project. From using Github, vscode, to APIs and different languages, we learned many different useful things that will help us moving forward in our careers.
What's next for Unclutter
We plan to keep improving Unclutter even after the hackathon. Some features/changes we want to make are: moving the website from a local host to an actual accessible website on the web using something like gitpages. We also want to improve the chatting experience by adding a type of voice bot for the user to interact with, so the user can just ask questions verbally and not have to type while cooking.
