Inspiration
To quietly rebel against the invisible clock that tells us when we must marry, have kids, buy a house, and “succeed”—all because “that’s the age everyone does it.”
What it does
A simple and short animation that shows a single glass orb rolling past wedding rings, baby carriages, suitcases and calendars racing toward society’s prescribed milestones—an anomaly that never joins the chase. The glass orb shows deviance or resistance to the preset standards of life and follows its own path. It releases from pressure and in the end is shown in its lightest form representing relief.
How I built it
Concept and script developed with Grok & ChatGPT. Narration voiced in ElevenLabs. Base images generated with Seedream 4 (ElevenLabs), consistent orb keyframes via Higgsfield. Final edit and timing in CapCut.
Challenges I ran into
Keeping the motion and physics of the orb accurate, syncing the surreal object choreography with natural pacing, and resisting the urge to add too much clutter or unnecessary details which would have taken away from the imagery of deviance.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Created a piece that feels meditative yet impactful using only AI tools and zero traditional filming. The final animation genuinely encourages reflection for our own timelines and what we really want out of life intrinsically because at the end of the day we live this life till the end as only ourselves.
What I learned
Opinion: Chrononormativity resistance can be expressed more powerfully through pure metaphor than through lectures. Rooms in academia teach us through lectures or textbooks but art shows it to us in visually memorable ways. Finally, less really is more when the message is defiance.
What's next for UNCHASE: Anomaly | Chrononormativity Resistance A series of short “orb variations” for every forced milestone (promotion, second child, retirement savings, etc.), then an interactive installation or game where viewers can float their own orb against the current, if they choose to.
