Inspiration

Our project, UNC Easy Eats, was inspired by the challenges faced by students with mobility issues in accessing meals from the university's dining halls. One of our close friends experienced these difficulties firsthand due to a serious leg injury. Witnessing these obstacles motivated us to create a solution that connects student volunteers with those in need. UNC Easy Eats aims to bridge the gap and ensure that every student has access to essential meals, regardless of their mobility challenges.

What it does

UNC Easy Eats is a user-friendly platform designed to connect student volunteers with individuals who find it difficult to obtain food from the university's dining halls. The platform operates similarly to popular food delivery services, allowing users to log in, submit delivery requests, and track their orders in real-time. Volunteers can accept multiple delivery requests simultaneously and access a map displaying delivery locations. This service ensures that students with mobility challenges can receive meals conveniently and efficiently.

How we built it

UNC Easy Eats was developed using Next.js for the frontend, leveraging the robust capabilities of Chakra UI for seamless and visually appealing styling. The backend functionality was powered by Supabase, a versatile platform that enabled us to implement crucial features seamlessly. JavaScript functions were instrumental in managing various aspects of the application, facilitating smooth communication between the frontend and the backend.

Challenges we ran into

While developing UNC Easy Eats, we encountered several challenges. One of the key hurdles was ensuring real-time tracking accuracy for both users and volunteers. Implementing a reliable tracking system that provided precise data while maintaining user privacy required innovative solutions. Additionally, integrating Supabase functionalities into the frontend and synchronizing data flow posed significant challenges, demanding meticulous attention to detail.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges we faced, we are immensely proud of the comprehensive and user-friendly platform we have created. UNC Easy Eats represents a significant achievement in addressing a critical issue faced by our community. We take pride in the seamless integration of frontend and backend technologies, ensuring a smooth user experience. Our ability to overcome complex technical challenges and deliver a functional, accessible, and reliable solution is a testament to our team's dedication and expertise.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, we gained invaluable insights into frontend and backend integration, real-time tracking systems, and user experience optimization. Working with technologies like Next.js, Chakra UI, and Supabase provided us with practical knowledge that will undoubtedly benefit our future projects. Additionally, collaborating as a team and navigating complex challenges enhanced our problem-solving skills and teamwork capabilities.

What's next for Untitled

Looking ahead, we plan to further enhance UNC Easy Eats by incorporating additional features based on user feedback. This may include implementing user ratings and feedback systems to enhance the reliability of the service. Additionally, we aim to expand our outreach, collaborating with accessibility organizations and communities to ensure that our platform reaches those who need it the most. Our goal is to continually improve and refine UNC Easy Eats, making it a valuable resource for all students facing mobility challenges.
