Inspiration
In many underdeveloped regions, travel remains a financial burden that limits access to opportunity, education, and family connection. We wanted to create a solution that empowers communities to collaborate and share travel costs easily and transparently.
What it does
Unbound allows users to create travel itineraries, generate secure shareable codes, and invite others to contribute to specific expenses. This collective funding approach makes travel more affordable and fosters stronger community support networks.
How we built it
We developed Unbound using Python for the backend and HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend. The app integrates a simple database to store trip data and simulate funding contributions, with a lightweight, mobile-friendly design optimized for accessibility.
Challenges we ran into
We faced difficulties ensuring secure contribution tracking, designing a smooth user flow within time constraints, and maintaining simplicity while building meaningful functionality. Balancing technical feasibility and social impact was also a key challenge. We also go stuck on implementing an interactive chat bot towards the end and choose to keep the project as is since it was a working product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a working prototype within 24 hours that demonstrates real-world potential. Our team collaborated efficiently, built an intuitive UI, and designed a platform that reflects genuine social purpose and innovation.
What we learned
We learned the importance of aligning technical execution with human-centered design. Collaboration, time management, and prioritizing core features were critical to turning our concept into a tangible, functioning solution.
What's next for Unbound
Next, we plan to implement real payment integration, expand to more communities, and partner with local organizations to pilot the platform. Our goal is to scale Unbound into a sustainable tool for shared mobility and economic inclusion.
