Inspiration
Unavaram was born out of the pressing need to combat global food waste and hunger. It serves as a platform that connects surplus food providers, such as restaurants and grocery stores, with nonprofit organizations and individuals in need. This innovative system aims to significantly reduce food waste and ensure that food reaches those who need it most.
What it does
Unavaram is a user-friendly mobile application designed to efficiently match surplus food listings with nonprofit organizations and beneficiaries based on their preferences. It utilizes advanced technologies like machine learning, image recognition, and route optimization to ensure food safety and efficient delivery. The application places a strong emphasis on user experience and security.
How we built it
Our development journey involved careful planning and execution. We selected Android Studio as our development environment and integrated the Google Maps API for live location services. We relied on the Java programming language for its reliability and performance. To securely manage data, we implemented Firebase Database. The user interface was thoughtfully crafted using Flutter's powerful UI/UX framework.
Challenges we ran into
Throughout the development process, we encountered challenges related to the integration of backend and frontend components, Android Studio SDK issues, and resolving various errors. However, our dedicated team persevered and successfully overcame these hurdles.

What we learned
The Unavaram team gained valuable experience in integrating diverse APIs, efficiently and securely managing user data, implementing robust authentication mechanisms, and creating a user-friendly design. We've also learned the importance of actively seeking and incorporating user feedback for continuous improvement.

Our journey continues with plans to expand Unavaram's impact to new regions and communities. We aspire to reach more surplus food providers, nonprofit organizations, and beneficiaries. The future holds continuous enhancements in user experience, data analytics, and strengthened collaborations with like-minded organizations. Additionally, we aim to explore sustainability initiatives beyond food waste management and actively participate in global efforts to combat food waste and hunger.
