Inspiration
I struggled finding a way to incorporate the competition requirements while actually doing something that involved code. Then I remembered the game GeoGuessr and thought I could make something interactive yet informative.
What it does
It displays a map with names of countries by their respective locations. Clicking on a name will provide data related to 3 of the UN Sustainability goals: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Quality Education.
How we built it
I used Notepad to write code and opened it as an html file.
Challenges we ran into
I had to learn some Javascript to write scripts that would allow information to be displayed. I also encountered bugs and had no idea what was wrong; it was often something obscure like using a dash when giving an element an ID and referencing it. As a result I removed the dash.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm especially proud of reigniting my knowledge of CSS and HTML and the new knowledge I got about all 3 languages I used.
What we learned
I learned Javascript basics, more intermediate HTML and CSS, and issues everyday people have around the world.
What's next for UN Goals Interactive World Map With Data Website
Adding new information, a search bar, and improving aesthetics.
