We are creating an integrated solution to make parking on campus more efficient and take less time.

Goal

As students, we want to park quickly, so that we are on time to class and can do better academically.

How We Did It

We used computer vision combined with low-cost hardware (Raspberry Pi) to track cars entering a garage or parking lot. By keeping a running tally of the cars in a lot or garage, and comparing that to the number of spaces in the lot or garage, we can quickly and reliably determine whether a lot is full. If the lot is full, we can alert drivers either through physical indicators or through an app, allowing them to spend less time searching for parking in a full garage, and more time focusing on academics.

Created website/mocked-up the web app. Managed LAMP stack on remote server using SSH. Also managed documentation for team, acted as a project manager, and presented project to judges.

I’m a Senior Bachelor’s of Science in Economics student at the University of Missouri — Saint Louis, minoring in Information Systems.
I created the MySQL Database implementation. I wrote the connection implementation from the hardware backend in C# with SQL, and also in PHP for the front end. Aided in the Python connection implementation as well from the Raspberry Pi. Also wrote PHP for front end Controller module and organized front end directory. Advised in C# algorithmic implementation of pixel value and change evaluation in the Computer Vision backend.
