🚀 About the Project: Umpla
🎯 Inspiration
In Equatorial Guinea, many entrepreneurs and small business owners want to sell their products online, but face major barriers: most platforms are in English, require technical skills, or are simply not adapted to local needs. We were inspired by the idea of democratizing digital commerce in our region — making it simple, local, and accessible for anyone, regardless of their tech background.
🔧 How We Built It
We built Umpla using Lovable.dev for the frontend design and Supabase for backend services including authentication, database, and user management.
Key features:
- Onboarding flow with language selection (Spanish/English)
- Free store creation with customizable name, logo, and subdomain (
yourstore.umpla.gq) - Subscription plans with product limits (Free, Standard, Premium)
- Referral system that unlocks more product slots for inviting new users
- WhatsApp integration and QR code generation
- SEO-ready store profiles
- Admin panel for managing stores and users
🌱 What We Learned
- Building localized tools for underserved regions has huge impact.
- Even no-code/low-code platforms like Lovable.dev can deliver production-ready MVPs when well structured.
- User onboarding and simplicity are key to adoption in non-technical communities.
🚧 Challenges We Faced
- Implementing subdomain routing and domain availability checks within a no-code environment.
- Managing multilingual content dynamically.
- Keeping the interface intuitive while adding powerful features like referrals, SEO, and store analytics.
We believe Umpla can empower a new generation of entrepreneurs in Equatorial Guinea and similar markets, giving them a real chance to succeed online — in their language, on their terms.
