Inspiration

We recently learned that a large amount of students frequently struggle to find events or activities when visiting University Park. Navigating social media, consulting with friends, and exploring various websites was overwhelming and became a hassle. Because of this, we decided to offer a solution....UMoments!

What it does

UMoments serves as a centralized hub for university students to discover and keep track of events happening on and around campus.

How we built it

We used Next.js and TailwindCSS for the frontend, Express.js + Node.js for the backend. For authentication we used Auth0 and we used MongoDB as our database.

Challenges we ran into

We had some challenges rendering the map into our app, but after working through it together, we figured it out!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I think using a new system for authentication was definitely a big feat for us. Out of everything we used for this project, this was something we'd never used before.

What we learned

We learned a lot about Auth0. Our team has had a lot of experience with Firebase and the functionality and documentation that Auth0 offered was amazing.

What's next for UMoment

We want to add more social features so you can add friends. Working on developing our map feature. We also want to potentially monetize our platform through sponsored events that local businesses and groups can promote.
