Umoja Wallet is a community wallet app that digitizes savings and lending for women’s chamas in East Africa using the Stellar network. The platform enables transparency, pooled savings, and access to cross-border remittances and yield generation through Soroban smart contracts. Our goal is to onboard thousands of underbanked women onto the Stellar ecosystem. It is designed to help women’s community savings groups—also known as chamas—across East Africa. The goal of Chama Wallet is to make it easier and safer for women to save money together as a group. Using blockchain technology and smart contracts (called Soroban), the platform keeps clear records of each member’s contributions and savings. This helps build trust, avoid confusion, and prevent money from getting lost or mismanaged. Chama Wallet also supports women who don’t have access to banks by giving them a secure and transparent way to manage group finances on their phones. In the future, the project aims to grow and support even more groups through a sustainable model that keeps the platform running and continues to serve underbanked women.
