Inspiration I wanted to add a simple yet useful feature to Jira dashboards—live weather updates—to help users stay informed while managing tasks.

What it does The app displays real-time weather based on a chosen city using data from an open weather API. It shows temperature, conditions, and basic weather info directly in Jira.

How I built it I used Atlassian Forge and followed the Apprentice-level guide to build a Forge UI gadget that fetches and displays weather data via REST API calls.

Challenges I ran into As a beginner, understanding Forge’s structure, permissions, and limitations was challenging. Integrating external APIs in a restricted environment took trial and error.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of I built and deployed a functional Jira gadget from scratch and learned how to connect external APIs within Forge.

What I learned I gained foundational knowledge of Atlassian Forge, API integration, and building UI components inside Jira.

What's next for Umbrella.io I plan to add auto-location detection, a short forecast feature, and polish the UI for broader use.
