Inspiration
We were walking the halls of the ILC building and noticed many cluttered poster boards. Many posters were expired and not relevant. We decided to create a website that neatly manages student posters.
What it does
Our website UmassPosterHub allows students and staff to view and upload posters. It features a filtering system by labels and allows to sort the posters by date.
How we built it
To implement the UmassPosterHub, we used React for the frontend, FastAPI and Python for the backend.
Challenges we ran into
Before starting this project, we were not at all experienced in working on the frontend components of our project. HackUmass enabled us to challenge ourselves and learn React.js to create a meaningful project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the progress we have made with our project and how it could become potentially useful to the Umass community.
What we learned
We learned how to efficiently work as a team, compromise, resolve issues as well as improve our full-stack developing skills.
What's next for UmassPosterHub
The next steps for our project include tying the frontend with our backend to enable filtering posters and automated poster labeling using computer vision.
