Hack the Covid-19 crisis

What it does

The wearable could be made like a smart watch and make sure that individuals can keep distance to each other. Students, workers and other individuals could return to their environments with the security to all participants keep the security distance to each other. Even bigger events like football games could be again arranged. By using an offline technology that is not using radio frequencies but utrasonic and infrared communication without the necessity to build any infrastructure it is very easy to implement and flexible to use and also useable worldwide. Therefore it is not necessary to have special radio certifications for different countries execpt CE self declaration. UltrasonicLight could be used worldwide and completely respects privacy because not recording any personal data or motion profiles. So it has a fully GDPR conform approach.

How I built it

Small battery supplied PCB with ultra low-power microcontroller infrastructure having additional sensors already on board like motion sensor, infrared transceiver and ultrasonic transceiver. Actors like a vibration motor could be add to already existing port very easy. A peripheral port to use an optional small display to show status, batterie or other individual information is integrated too. Firmware was built in C and is planned to present as open source. All components are available even in large quantities worldwide.

Challenges I ran into

Construction and production of a suitable housing.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Fusion of microcontroller and sensors as well as actors with smart communication approach of nodes not using radio frequencies and therefore compatible to use worldwide without the necessity of additional approvals.

What I learned

Using C in hardware programming and building suitable PCB.

What's next for UltrasonicLight 4 safe students

Finalize C code for full function for optimized communication and identification of other nodes in mesh network.
