Inspiration

Antidepressants can cause negative side effects and act by modulating the brain, which can be accomplished with ultrasound neuromodulation with minimal side effects.

What it does

Acoustic simulation of an ultrasound transducer on a brain. Embedded software to theoretically run an ultrasound transducer with the needed parameters.

How I built it

The simulation uses the TUSX add-on for MATLAB, transducer location is currently somewhat arbitrary and needs more research. The embedded software will run multiple ultrasound transducers with modifiable pulse timing and duration.

Challenges I ran into

I spent most of my time researching, and didn't end up having a lot of time to work on the software.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Managed to get a (mostly) working simulation and embedded software that should work despite spending most of my time researching.

What I learned

I need to spend more time learning MATLAB. I also learned a good bit about how antidepressants act.

What's next for Ultrasonic Neural Stimulation for Depression Treatment

Further research and development, followed by a clinical trial, and possibly commercialization.
