Inspiration

When Capital One presented their challenge statement the topic of finance really resonated with me. As a college student who had only begun their banking and credit journey, finding the right resources was difficult for me. Plans were difficult to execute and the whole entire idea was daunting. That's why I created UltFin an app that would manage your finances automatically.

What it does

UltFin is your own personal finance managing app. This application allows you to track and personalize a financial plan. It requires you to have at least one checking account, one savings account, and one credit card.

Upon signing up, the app calculates your average spending amount per month. Assuming your salary deposits into your checking account 120% of your average spending amount is kept in your checking account while the rest of it is transferred to your savings. At the end of every month the money that is unused is then transferred to your savings. The cycle then continues.

On top of this automatic manager, this application will provide in depth analysis of your spending habits. Once a report is created UltFin is able to recommend banks for checking and savings accounts and most importantly credit cards. The data of your credit history as well as categories spent and credit utilization is taken into consideration every 6-12 months to ensure a smooth and easy credit card journey.

UltFin is the ultimate finance manager that will keep your financial habits in check through notifications and automatic payments/transfers.

How we built it

UltFin was built through Figma due to time constraint, lack of experience, and the fact that I'm working solo. However, Figma was the best choice for me as I was able to create a simple UI/UX design that would accommodate and attract users.

Challenges we ran into

I ran into many creative challenges. With a lack of a team I was alone on the design. However, through inspiration on the internet and my own personal preference I was able to create a project I am proud of.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

On my first hackathon I also used Figma for the first time. I felt very helpless as throughout that 36 hour period as I spent majority of my time struggling to figure out how to utilize the program. This time around I worked through Figma very easily. I did have some hiccups here and there but overall I am proud of my growth and the UI I've created.

What we learned

Since I was alone on this project I learned how difficult it actually is to create a user interface. Simple can be too simple but too much information can also be bad. It has to be just right so that users can properly utilize the app while benefitting the most they can.

What's next for UltFin

The next step for UltFin is for it to be created through Android Studio. Through this software I will be able to actually create and publish this app using real code. I would actually need to implement the APIs and algorithms that will support this program.
