My inspiration :My inspiration for this project has been the hard work that my fellow Kenyans have put into farming since the Covid-19 pandemic started. Many people saw their livelihood was threatened and there as a last resort many Kenyans ventured into farming as the basic need for their upkeep and health is food. Others opted to venture into it as a income generating activity. It has been seen over the last few months many people have been selling their produce even on the road sides with the hope to sell and make money and at many times some are not able to sell their produce as their not able to market their produce due to the Covid-19. Furthermore many people are afraid of moving out of their houses due to the pandemic therefore the seller customer relationship was compromised. I therefore thought of a need to bridge this gap by introducing the UKULIMA BORA apk which will be a mobile application that will be used so as to accomplish this.

What it does: This application will provide a channel where farmers and customers will connect on a virtual scale and also do business through mobile banking with the application acting as a middleman between the buyer and seller.

OBJECTIVES.

1. To grow the agricultural sector in these tough Covid-19 period.
2. To promote farming whether large scale, small scale or even garden farming as a final resort to provide food during this COVID-19 period.
3. To reduce the spread of Covid-19 in the community by moving from place to place in search of food.
4. To provide an easier way of getting agricultural products from the seller to the buyer.
5. To promote the life of the local farmers as they will earn an income which will help in their day to day upkeep.
6. To teach on the agricultural aspect of life through tutorial videos which will be made by farmers and posted on various platforms such as YouTube.
7. To also provide a channel of local barter trade where the farmers can exchange produce if they are in surplus.
8. To advise farmers on better farming methods by incorporating other organizations through the help of the National Government in conjunction with the County Government.
9. To bridge the gap between technology and farming in a way that it will even reach the local people far away from the city.
10. Most importantly, to help those in need during this tough Corona period by also creating a channel whereby people are able to donate food through the app to the Covid-19 relief fund program. THE PLATFORM. The platform will be composed of: 1.TUTORIALS. With the aid of this program established farmers will have a chance to show their prowess in farming by making videos on how to grow certain crops which they are good in and post them online through various media platforms. By posting these videos online the farmers can reach a wide range of upcoming farmers and also make money through the videos made. The farmers can also use this platform to share their professional advice through webinars and seminars(which are under strict Covid-19 regulations) and through this the farmer can also be paid for such programs. 2.CHAT BOX. This is a forum where established and upcoming farmers get the chance to interact and also advice on another on farming and other related activities. 3.BUSINESS PLATFORM. This is where the farmers with the help of these app post their produce online where interested customers will by the produce whether wholesale or retail with the guidance of the application. Farmers will register with the application , avail their produce to the concerned people who will then make sure it is posted online and once it is bought the money is wired to the farmer through relevant mobile banking platforms. 4.BARTER TRADE PLATFORM. As farming is an activity in which one can produce more than the intended amount , the surplus can be put on a section designated for registered farmers and they can interact to exchange agreed upon produce so as also to diversify on the crop production.
    1. DONATION PLATFORM. As we are aware of the harsh economic period that has hit our great nation , through the application a section will also be created for donating foodstuffs to those hit by the pandemic as a sign of great unity as we are all Kenyans. The foodstuffs shall be supplied to different parts of the country.

How I built it : This is an idea in the making and I hope it can pass this stage so that more work can be done on it, as I believe it will be beneficial to a lot of people.

Challenges I ran into: I would say that the greatest challenge on my side has been the communication about the challenge as it has also not been easy to access the necessary bundles to go onto the internet and see the challenge. For example most time has been dedicated trying to get jobs that would lessen the burden of the pandemic.

Seeking of information from local people as some would ask why you are doing this , in fear of the fact that you have bad intentions. They want to see something recognized so as to believe and therefore my hope is that when we go into the field again with the #fursavsvirus team better results would be achieved. Help required in developing the app for the prototype. Finding partners willing to help in the project at this time was also hard.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of : This challenge has given me a chance to think outside the box on ways of improving different communities, their relationships and also the unity of the Nation all together especially during this hard period.

What I learned : There is a need to sensitize the public on working smart rather than working hard.

I intend to also include the the grocery dealers 'mama mboga' in this initiative by including organizations which I have in mind would be really happy to boost this project.
