Inspiration
We wanted to create a program that would be able to assist the people of Ukraine during this time of humanitarian crisis.
What it does
The Ukraine Map Info Hub provides a dashboard that displays information about the ongoing war through crowdsourced efforts in the form of google maps markers, as well as links to charities and relief efforts to help the people of Ukraine. Anyone can view the markers, but one has to create an account and sign in to create markers.
How we built it
The Ukraine Map Info Hub was built on the nextJS framework, using React and Tailwind CSS. It runs off of a MySQL backend database and uses the Google Maps API for the map portion.
Challenges we ran into
Learning how to use new frameworks and learning to use the google maps API to suit our needs proved to be a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of being able to build everything from scratch, including the database and authentication system, and putting it all together into a working product.
What we learned
We learned a lot about functional components in React, using the nextJS framework, and setting up a secure authentication system.
