Inspiration

After a little scrolling on the UIC website we noticed on thing that was missing the loving and care that it deserved. The Bowling Alley, also known as "THE ALLEY". The UIC bowling website/tab is very simple, empty, and overall, just bland. We decided to spice it up a little.

What it does

Our website displays all necessary information in order for consumers to properly plan and book a reservation with the bowling alley. Using various images and button functions the consumer is able to reserve a reservation, purchase bowling shoes, and browse different dining options. Our website builds on UIC current bowling site, making it more minimalistic, and easier to digest as a customer. It showcases a vibrant color palleted and visually pleasing button formatting, that ultimately benefits the user.

How we built it

  • Languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Separated the responsibilities for the website in order for everyone to simultaneously make progress on the progress
  • Mainly utilized buttons to display different screens on different information pertaining UIC bowling and all it has to offer.
  • Utilized Figma to construct prototypes and adobe illustrator to reconstruct UIC's logo
  • Used Adobe Lightroom to alter images to satisfaction

To develop our website, we utilized HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. These proved to be the most efficient and resourceful in terms of building a website in the time allotted to us. After deciding which languages to use we then brainstormed and separated the responsibilities for the website in order for everyone in our group to simultaneously make progress on the project. A majority of the code consists of buttons and other user inputs to display the correct information.

Challenges we ran into

  • Figuring out where to start/Choosing a language to code in (as a prominent group of freshmen we are a little inexperienced when it comes to building a website.)
  • Styling functional applications such as buttons, links and images
  • Merge our separate functions and code style's together
  • Deciding aesthetic/design elements to incorporate into our website in a way that corresponds with UIC standards

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Merging code files into one program and creating a functional website
  • Learning how to properly integrate HTML structure with CSS style and JavaScript functionality with the use of class, id, and style functions.
  • Effectively creating an idea and transforming it into a functional prototype; Engaging in crowdsourcing; Using Figma and adobe illustrator to create and imitate design elements

What we learned

  • How to integrate structural code using HTML, styling code using CSS, and functional code using JavaScript
  • How to separate a project into separate parts that can be worked on at the same time

What's next for UIC SCE Bowling Alley Website

  • Small updates and functionality changes to makes the site smoother and nicer
