Inspiration
The inspiration for this application was that sometimes you, your friend, or family knows things or notices things that another person might not know or realize or notice but are scared to let them know. We also believe that people do love self-improvement and are caring more and more for their health. People are romanticizing more taking care of their bodies. We wanted to create a space where people can share things that they might know about a friend like "hey check that thing out on your foot with the doctor" or like "i know that person, and you were out late last night with them, be careful, they aren't trustworthy or maybe check if you got sick".
What it does
We provide a place for people to submit their messages to their friends and their friends can see their messages. They send it to their account which is gated by their number as only the owner of that number can receive a password to that number that can check messages that were sent to an account to that.
How we built it
We built this using NextJS, TypeScript, Supabase, Node.js, and Twilio. We used Twilio for SMS verification to verify phone numbers. We store the messages on supabase.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we ran into is that we found the hackathon in short notice and didn't have much time to dedicate development as we had other commitments going on but we still managed to build out a minimum viable product. There's still a lot we would like to build out on this application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishment we are proud of us is being able to put a foot forward in trying to tackle this problem and possibly provide a solution or even help inspire a solution to help the world.
What we learned
We learned a little more about STIs and some cool things and statistics from the research papers we read.
What's next for this project
Depending on feedback and if we get product market fit, we will see if we can continue pushing this project forward -- either extending it more to just all health concerns or even a service that helps people compliment or provide growing critique to each other anonymously. We also want to grow filters perhaps on messages to make sure nothing bad gets send as well as figure out a way to break even because sending texts for OTP verification does cost money. One idea is having user pay $1 with Stripe every time they want to check messages for their phone number and then some of that covers the texting fee, the Stripe fee, and rest is donated to fight against diseases.
