Inspiration
We were inspired by the direction the world is progressing towards in terms of safety for young people as more and more children are using screens everyday. We know how dangerous the world can be, and how much we put our parents through sometimes. In a world full of distractions and dangers, knowing that your family is safe is a top priority for most. Knowing where your kids are is the first step of many in the average parent's safety plan.
What it does
UGottaTrack 6 takes the real time data of a child's coordinates and plots them on our gridmap. Other users/parents who subscribe to track that child are able to see the child's location as well as their own.
How we built it
First we established the connection to PubSub+. We wrote a few classes to simplify the publishing and subscription processes, and from there, we created a GUI in HTML to display and update locations.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up PubSub+ took the longest amount of time. The documentation wasn't super clear and so we spent a decent chunk of time deciding what exactly needed to be done and how exactly to do it using the tools we wanted to use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Just connecting to Solace was an accomplishment considering we came into the weekend with no knowledge on how it worked at all. Besides that, the most rewarding part was seeing the chat/ping feature come to life.
What we learned
We learned a significant amount about Event Driven Architecture and event brokers, and had the chance to advance our Javascript skills to the next level.
