Inspiration

Computer Science is a large field that may be intimidating to incoming first-year college students. The University of Florida is no exception, as it provides a plethora of programs, clubs, and certificates to provide its students with the best education possible. However, with so many options, it is hard to find out about opportunities and potential career paths that suit individual students.

What it does

UF CISE Hub solves this issue by holding all information that a CISE major may need in one place. Relevant information such as clubs, calendars, starter packs, classes, and more will provide students with the aid they have been looking for so they can focus on what matters most, their education.

How we built it

We used Figma, a program we learned about in the UX design workshop in HackGT. It allowed us to design the framework for a potential new UF website that will compile an overwhelming amount of CISE info into one centralized and organized hub.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into issues with time management, formatting, and button functions. We managed these problems with a bit of reverse engineering and creativity that allowed us to complete our best work despite these obstacles.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of the interface as a whole and are very excited to see what the future holds for it. We are all emerging, so having the opportunity and means to design and make a project was both a bit daunting and exhilarating. We are very pleased with our ability to create such a strong prototype given a short amount of time, and are proud of our ability to work together and create a functioning framework that embodies our ideas.

What we learned

We learned a great deal about working in a team and recognizing individual strengths and limitations. We gained hands-on experience working with UI/UX design and learned about these important design aspects of technical projects.

What's next for UF CISE Hub

We intend to turn our wireframe into a fully functioning website! The website will be searchable and indexed, and contain much more of the useful information we want to manage and make manageable. Our goal is to create a true hub that provides information and encourages networking with an ease and clear flow that makes life just a little bit simpler for everyone!
