PokemonGO, DoubleMap, Our freshman-year perspectives
What it does
This app allows Users to tour the campus with an geo-interactive mapping app that can lead users to exciting spots on campus. They can interact with each other for example, by doing trivia questions in a contest to see who knows specific facts about near by monuments and the campus or organization as a whole. The goal is to allow universities and companies with large campuses to create a fun digital environment for students, workers, and guests to enjoy the location to its fullest.
How we built it
We split up into two teams one built the game using Unity and the other built a backend Database, We then used PlasticSCM as a Unity Version control to work collaboratively.
Challenges we ran into
None of us originally had androids, so we had to find someone to lend them to us. Then, getting the map to work correctly was another issue. Finally, We had to figure out how to make the android keep track of our location. On top of that 3 of our members had never Used Unity seriously before so there was a tricky learning curb.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to Use the MapBox map API while running the app. We got the app to run on an Android and track our geolocation. We were able to come up with a pretty versatile idea in a short amount of time. We made a working backend for a mobile app.
What we learned
We all learn how to code in C# with Unity so we can make games. How to integrate a MERN typescript stack Backend with a Unity app. How to develop apps for Androids.
What's next for UDEL-GO
We want to complete it but first we need our own Androids. Then, we would like to allow Users to add saved trivia spots to their accounts. After that, we want to add collectible Items and multiplayer activities. Then we want to make a model that can be replicated for companies, amusement parks and Universities to purchase for their campuses.
