Inspiration
Our inspiration for our project was making volunteering opportunities more accessible towards University of Delaware Students. Currently, these opportunities aren't very well known and hard to find in one place within UD. By doing this, we hope to improve community engagement within the students and our local area.
What it does
This is a website centered around community service and a point system. Admin, including RSO's, faculty, charities, schools, and local businesses will post community services on the website, with a point value attached to it. Students can click the opportunity, check the time, place, and date, and choose to register through a registration form. Additionally, there is also a point leaderboard that is shown as students complete the community service.
How we built it
We began by prototyping our design into Figma to get an idea of what we wanted the website to look like. Afterwards, we coded all of the components into HTML and later converted that into react.js (and CSS). We were able to utilize GoDaddy, Github, VSCode, and Canva to register our domain, write our code, and design our protypes.
Challenges we ran into
The most frequent challenge we ran into were the constant errors we received due to the lack of knowledge in HTML and react. We spent a lot of our time mostly debugging and looking up tutorials on how to master the basics of both languages. The most difficult challenge we faced was having to link two different pages in react.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are especially proud of being able to make this website from scratch with the vision we were imagining. We are also proud of getting the chance to get familiar with HTML and react.js in such a short time window, as well as overcoming our most difficult challenge.
What we learned
We learned the fundamentals of HTML and react.js through the hours spent debugging and watching tutorials. We also learned the importance of collaborating ideas, problem solving as a team, and willingness
What's next for myudash
We have access to the the domain for a year, which gives us plenty of time to come back to our project and tweak it. We plan to add different features that we weren't able to implement due to time constraints.
