Google Chrome extension designed to read schedule info from UCSB's GOLD system and search for the required textbooks for classes.

Functionality

The goal of this extension was to ease the process of looking for textbooks for UCSB courses. Once a person logs into their GOLD account, and reaches the schedule section, a button will be created on the webpage, and schedule info related to course number and department will be automatically extracted. Clicking on loads a new page (or tab depending upon user browser settings) for the official textbook website for UCSB. From there, another button is created that, when clicked on, will automatically look up the textbooks you need for your classes.

I pitched the idea to my team members. With only 1 of us having experience in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, we wanted to challenge ourselves to create something that didn't exist before, while learning something new. I personally worked on some of the logic behind extracting schedule data using jQuery and JavaScript.

Most of my team had very little experience using Javascript or HTML. Because of this, we spent a large amount of our time learning the language. I was responsible for creating and adding the buttons on both webpages by inserting into the page HTML. Additionally, I found a way to select the options on the textbook webpage to systematically choose classes and search for textbooks.
