Inspiration
We wanted to create a platform to make networking easy among students on a college campus. Whenever a freshman enters a college, the first thing he encounters is how to make connections for a better future and find mates to make connections due to purposes like a research assistantship or getting a co-founder for their entrepreneurial journey. Also managing these tasks can be a hassle. Our approach provides a social networking platform for college students on their campus to make their lives easier and organized to increase their productivity.
What it does
This app matches students based on similar interests. Students are able to host or join groups. Our Calendar system allows students to coordinate meetings with other individuals.
How we built it
We use React.js for the frontend of our project and firebase for the backend and database.
Challenges we ran into
We didn't have enough experience in frontend development particularly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to accomplish a majority of the frontend code. Our firebase team created a user authentication system that is linked to the database.
What we learned
Time is valuable and in the small span of time, we need to implement more bootstrap to improve the front end.
What's next for UCLA Connect
To complete the front-end and implement another feature like upcoming events at UCLA and all of the city of LA and check what other students are going.
