Inspiration
There are numerous problems on UCL campus that are left unresolved because of the lack of an appropriate system to report them. The current systems are either excessively slow or require too much engagement from the student. We decided to dedicate ourselves to creating a service that would allow everyone to report such problems easily and in brief times.
What we learned and how we built this
We learned to translate our idea into a prototype that combined several elements of design with web-based apps. After an initial phase of brainstorming, we had several ideas. We then compared one versus another and eliminated ideas until we came to the penultimate one. We began considering the user interface and how the different sections of the back end and front end would interact. We delegated roles to establish a design for the front end and simultaneously began work on setting up the API system.
Challenges
Coming up with new ideas to improve student life is not easy. Although we brainstormed many ideas, most were not feasible with our restricted time frame and knowledge. Moreover, we had to take into account which data are we able and allowed to collect. A smaller project that can be prototyped in 24h and implemented in weeks is more impactful than a big project that could take years and never be implemented. Teamwork and creativity were fundamental to choosing our project and overcoming all adversities.
