Inspiration
Our team is made up of students from Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Williams and UChicago. We were all extremely excited about this track, as we remembered how stressful of a process college admissions was for us, and so we were inspired to change that.
What it does
Our project pairs data taken directly from UChicago with an AI chat bot that we built. Due to the fact that the chat bot has access to virtually all data about UChicago, it's a pro at responding to questions and taking the load off of prospective UChicago students.
How we built it
We used React for the front-end, paired with Flask on the back-end. We also integrated OpenAI and Pinecone into Flask. Bringing all these technologies together over a weekend was definitely a challenge, but we enjoyed every minute of it.
Challenges we ran into
Due to the technical issues with Azure on the first night, we had to settle for Pinecone, but were happy to see that it would work the same. Our other greatest challenge was integrating all the languages with each other, as some of them weren't really meant to be integrated, but we were able to accomplish it in the end.
What we learned
Most of our team had never worked with AI before, so this was definitely a learning experience for all of us. We each had to be team players throughout this weekend, working with languages we'd never heard of or debugging each others code. It was an incredible experience all being exposed to all of this at Georgetown, and we've agreed that we'll each take back a lot from this experience.
