I grew up in a small community in Nigeria, where opportunities were limited and education was often a struggle. My father worked hard to support our family, and I saw firsthand how important connection, guidance, and encouragement are for people. Those early experiences inspired me to create Uche X, a robot that doesn’t just move it connects with people and supports mental health.
Built from the open-source InMoov design, I 3D-printed, assembled, and coded every part myself. Uche X uses computer vision to recognize faces and track movements in real time, and it speaks Igbo, English, and French, allowing it to communicate naturally with a wide audience. It can greet users, follow them with smooth head and eye movements, and provide comforting interaction, bridging technology with emotional support.
Through building Uche X, I learned how to merge AI, robotics, and cultural awareness, while overcoming challenges like servo calibration, real-time face tracking, and synchronizing software with hardware.
"Uche X doesn’t just see you it sees you, speaks to you, and supports you." even though 36 hours not enough.
