Inspiration

This game was inspired b mobile and flash-style simplistic games with basic storylines and easy-to-understand gameplay.

What it does

The game lets you run indefinitely along a 3-lane road avoiding the IRS and different obstacles. There is a cutscene prior to gameplay which outlines what caused the main character to end up in that situation in the first place.

How we built it

We built the game using Godot and purchased the license to different assets used throughout the game. Anything that wasn't included was drawn in GIMP and Pixel Studio.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, we didn't have much direction for what the game was going to be. It was initially going to be a JRPG which had you file a literal 1040 tax form, but eventually we agreed on creating a game where the objective is to avoid being caught by the IRS for tax fraud. Beyond that, getting the code regarding the player and obstacles to work was another major challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a game which has some character and is fun to play. We're also proud of balancing the player's jump and slide durations with the speeds of the obstacles such that the game isn't too difficult or too hard.

What we learned

Making a game, even one as simple as this, requires lots of effort, time, and coordination.

What's next for UCF's Declassified Guide to Committing Tax Evasion

We can either add a new crime, or add a different game style.
