UC Pathfinder

Inspired by how hard it can be for new students to join clubs before club day or know what UC to transfer into, UC Pathfinder is a website that helps new students find the best UC to transfer into from IVC for their major, using transfer rates! The pathfinder also finds the average salary of graduates of that major from the university, and provides clubs that may help the user in pursuing their selected major at IVC. By allowing them to find extracurriculars early in the school year, it greatly helps new students in becoming involved with IVC as well as to help with their upcoming applications to transfer.'

Inspiration

We were inspired to make this project due to a lack of awareness to information about the differences of majors of different schools when it comes to transferring. We wanted to consolidate data to give new IVC students a resource to see how difficult certain majors are to get into, the salary they can expect to get with majors, clubs to help them in relation to their major, and if they're undecided, majors with a high salary based on a student's planned GPA. New students are really preoccupied with figuring out their major, which can prohibit them to join clubs, so having related clubs easily accessible to them based on different majors can help them get involved in IVC much easier.

The backbone of our project comes from data handling. We used data that is on the UC website for information, downloaded it, decoded it, compiled multiple datasets together, and reencoded it. The UC website uses an unique way to code, so figuring out how to navigate and format our datasets were important. We also custom-made a dataset for IVC clubs, giving them certain "tags" to match them to majors.

We then were able to use these datasets to compare, listing the general major category (i.e. Engineering, Humanities, Physical Sciences, etc.) and matching them with clubs given by our custom dataset. We also display the major, GPA range, acceptances rates for each college, and give the UCI salary if the major is in UCI so the student knows what to expect for a salary.
