‼️ Overall Problem
Inefficient way of having to navigate through multiple websites in order to find information for UC Davis.
💡Imagination / Vision
Students already have to navigate through college and the current layout of useful information is very dispersed. Our App and Website implement a simple and effective hub that contains all the useful information a students would want all in one place. Additionally, we also wanted to streamline finding a seat in the library so more time could be spent studying then looking for somewhere to sit down.
💻Solution
We created both an IOS app and website that allows for a convenient way to bring all the information a student would need on a daily basis as well as provides a simple and new user-friendly interface that's easy to navigate.
💬Collaboration
In order to create the UCD Survival Guide, we combine the skills of computer science, design, and engineering in order to create a website/app to fit our idea.
⚠️Challenges
It was challenging figuring out how to include certain elements in our prototypes. For the site:
- embedding a third party site into the website was a challenge
- looked into using buttons instead of embeds For the app:
- incorporating a full screen UI was a challenge
- looked into multiple sources
- incorporating a web desktop version for some tabs and mobile versions for others
👏🏼Accomplishments
As beginner Hackers, and this being our first HackDavis, we are proud to have progressed this much in what was an idea 24 hours ago.
🌱What we learned
Throughout this experience, we learned to push through our challenges both mentally and physically.
🚀Fail forward
In the future of our “UCD Survival Guide”, we would like to further implement the library features on this website/app to help create a more efficient day for every student. One way would be to develop a study area feature for the library to know whether there are open seats ahead of time. We would like to learn how to code the back end of the site which makes the server store our data when a user clicks to occupy a library space until the user decides to vacate the space.
