Inspiration
My team was inspired to create this project after struggling with classes. Often times, people share their personal resources for their classes on discord, but not all classmates are able to access this. Moreover, any class discord is unofficial. These problems show a hole within student interactions, and our team wanted to close that hole.
What it does
UC Davis Resource Hub allows students to have a forum dedicated to the resources used by their peers. This hub includes PDFs, youtube videos, and any other links or files students use to study for class. Students simply need to log on, pick their class code, and then they get access to all the resources they need to succeed in class. In addition, UC Davis Resource Hub allows students to upvote and downvote resources in order to push the best ones to the top of the website. Moreover, submitting a resource is easy as ever. All students need to do is fill out a quick form and add the link or file they are redirecting other students to.
How we built it
This project was built using HTML, CSS, and React. As the designer, I cannot comment much on the building of this project.
Challenges we ran into
Unfortunately, my entire team decided to quit instead of presenting what they have. Their work did not meet their standards and as a result, they have withdrawn from HackDavis. They worked hard on this project but unfortunately are not willing to show what they have.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of the effort and work my team put into this project. Even if the other members are not proud, I am still happy that everyone in my team put in a decent effort.
In addition, I am also proud of myself and my own work in this project. I have never designed a web-app before and am satisfied with my prototype. Moreover, I am proud that despite the rest of my team quitting the hackathon, I am still willing to go forward.
What we learned
I think everyone from my team learned different things over the course of this project. For me, I learned that things don't always go to plan, but it's important to keep pushing on. Additionally, I learned how to use Figma throughout the course of this project. I can now confidently call myself a UI designer.
What's next for UC Davis Resource Hub
Hopefully, I'll be able to find developers who can pick off where my last team left off. I genuinely feel this is a clean idea that could greatly benefit the students of UC Davis. If a few front-end and back-end developers would like to help me continue this project, I will be more than greatful.
