Inspiration

We were inspired by the Black Lives Matter protests throughout 2020 to create a platform to make sharing events similar to them easier and increase their discoverability.

What it does

Allows users to create events via a form page and browse events near them via a map page.

How we built it

We used create-react-app and the react-mapbox-gl api.

Challenges we ran into

Using the react-mapbox-gl API was tough as it was our first time using a map API. We also struggled with the security of our API key.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The design of the website is functional, yet appealing. We're also proud of our API implementation for a first time use!

What I learned

Maps are hard! Sometimes it's better to stay small and streamlined.

What's next for u-rally

Adding the ability to filter by event type, location and movement would be ideal. Also the ability to connect to other social media platforms to make sharing easier.
