Inspiration
We were inspired by the potential of technology to foster real-world connections and create memorable experiences. The idea of a scavenger hunt app that brings people together, encourages exploration, and promotes social interaction on campus was particularly appealing. We wanted to build something that not only challenges users but also helps them form new connections and discover hidden gems in their environment.
What it does
U QUEST is an interactive scavenger hunt app designed for university campuses. Users can create and participate in image-based challenges that guide them to explore different locations, complete tasks, and connect with others who are on similar quests. The app turns everyday exploration into an engaging and social experience, making it easier for students to meet new people and form connections.
How we built it
We built U QUEST using Flask as our primary web framework, allowing us to create a dynamic and responsive app. The backend handles user data, challenge creation, and image uploads, while the frontend is designed with HTML, CSS, and Python to provide a smooth user experience. We used Git for version control, which facilitated collaboration among team members and allowed us to manage our codebase effectively.
Challenges we ran into
One of the initial challenges was deciding on a project that would be both impactful and technically feasible. As we began development, we faced the steep learning curve of mastering Flask and Git simultaneously. Integrating these tools into our project required time and effort, particularly in terms of setting up the backend and ensuring smooth collaboration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the integration of Flask with our user interface, allowing for the challenges creation and user matching. Additionally, our team successfully navigated the complexities of version control with Git, leading to a well-coordinated development process. Most importantly, we turned a group of strangers into a team of friends.
What we learned
Throughout the project, we learned how to effectively use Flask to build a functional web application in a short period of time. We also gained valuable insights into the importance of clear communication and teamwork, which were crucial in overcoming the challenges we faced. The experience taught us how to combine technical skills with a user-centered approach to create something meaningful.
What's next for U QUEST
Looking forward, we plan to enhance U QUEST by adding new features such as social sharing capabilities. We also aim to expand the app's reach beyond our campus, allowing students from other universities to join in the fun. Continuous user feedback will be key to refining the app and ensuring it remains engaging and relevant.
