Inspiration

Our goals/objectives was to create a single platform for students to find opportunities they are interested in. Right now they're scattered throughout social media (and only if you're in a certain group or you're following them do you get updates). As well, some club pages on the university website aren’t active so you don't know if the club is still active. Students can apply through this app rather than having to jump onto another platform or hear events through word of mouth. Aside from accessing your local university opportunities, this app can be used for events from different universities.

What it does

Students can select their university and then sign in through their university portal. You are then redirected to the home page where you can select volunteer to see volunteer opportunities or club directory to see the list of clubs that active in your university. At the home page, you can scroll through the social events feed posted by clubs.

The clubs directory can be filtered by your area of interest (academic, cultural and recreational) or through the search bar. You can return to the home page through the home button at the bottom of the screen and when you click on the volunteer directory you will see a similar page for volunteer opportunities.

Our posting options are text, pictures, horizontal scrolling pictures, and a combination of either to create the widest range of flexibility.

How I built it

We used Figma to prototype how the app would work.

Challenges I ran into

Had to completely learn Figma, short on time and did not have time to do a proper video!

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We have both only taken 1 intro course to python, and this is the first time either of us have tried to do UI/UX design. Definitely a curveball learning how to navigate Figma. This is also our first hackathon.

What I learned

Time management is always important!

What's next for U-OP

This was just an idea, but hopefully an app in the future will exist to address the problem of garnering interest for clubs and improving the student/social life at school.
